LANGUAGE SKILLS

Collaboration is easier when you can communicate

  • 5 – Native speaker.
  • 4 – Can have complex conversations on a broad range of topics.  Understand nuance and humor.  Able to read, write, speak and think in the language.
  • 3 – Can have intermediate conversations on a broad range of topics.
  • 2 – Can have simple conversations on a limited number of topics.
  • 1 – Know simple words and phrases.
  • U.K. + Australian English – I completed several copywriting projects for clients from the U.K. and Australia.  Many of my expat friends are from these areas, so I’m familiar with colloquialisms.
  • Spanish – I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish (1999-2003).  I completed immersive volunteer projects for 3 months in Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica + Belize (1995-1999).  I did a study abroad program in Panama in 2002.  I lived in Spain for several months in 2018.  I’m close to fluent, but lack vocabulary for some topics.
  • Bahasa – I lived in Indonesia for 3 years and was immersed in my community.  Most of my friends speak Bahasa with each other, so I’m always around it.  I haven’t taken formal classes yet.
  • German – I completed four conversational German classes at a community college.  I also visited Germany many times and got married there. I can get around town without a problem.  Complex conversations are difficult without reviewing vocabulary.
